Forum: texts Subject: Copyright?

I'm interested in quoting from a book which is displayed in text (no waiting list) on archive.org called 'Rape of the Mind', by Joost Meerloo. From what I can figure out the original publishers have gone bust and various small publishers have taken it upon themselves to publish scanned versions of the book. BUT I don't know this for sure, despite having the wonders of the internet to hand (trails seem to peter out) and I wondered if the fact that the book is on archive org in text form indicates that it has effectively become public domain.

Any help appreciated.
